Muir Woods National Monument is a must-see destination on any visit to the San Francisco Bay Area. Just a short drive across the Golden Gate Bridge, the protected nature reserve is home to one of the world’s last remaining coastal redwood forests.

Choose from a morning or afternoon departure. Stop at a vista point for a fantastic perspective of the Golden Gate and Alcatraz, and wind through the rolling emerald hills of the Marin Headlands to arrive at Muir Woods. Stroll along forest paths surrounded by the giant redwood trees, some of which stretch as high as 250 feet (76 meters) and date back nearly 800 years.

After Muir Woods, take a short drive to the artistic bayside village of Sausalito. Capture wonderful photos of the San Francisco skyline during a stroll along the waterfront, pop into one of the many art galleries and grab a cappuccino or ice cream at a local café (own expense).

Your tour concludes with drop-off at Union Square in San Francisco or choose the option of taking the ferry back to San Francisco from Sausalito.

Unfortunately our most memorable part of the tour was the terrible experience we had with the ferry upgrade. The ferry voucher must be redeemed on the ferry for a ticket. That puts you last in line. We were among the first in line to board but all bikers are boarded first, then those with tickets next and then finally those with vouchers for tickets last. Loved Muir Woods and Sausalito but the bus driver definitely lacked enthusiasm.

Hello Teresa, Thanks for your review. It is the second time this week that we receive a similar complaint about the voucher line. We already contacted our partners to make sure that the order in line is respected when boarding the Ferry. We're happy that you loved Muir Woodsa and Sausalito. Please check all the other tours we offer. Andrea Customer Manager Gray Line San Francisco

Not Worth It - Do Muir Woods and Sausalito On Your Own
Jackie_M
, Oct 2021
The driver waited for passengers who didn't arrive on time, so our tour departed over 20 minutes late. This impacted the rest of the day's schedule and no adjustments were made to account for this change. We were late arriving to (and departing) Muir Woods, so we missed the original ferry out of Sausalito. This impacted the rest of the day's plans for our group and a few others on our tour. In prior years there was a driver and a separate tour guide. However, this year the driver was doing both jobs -- trying to navigate traffic and tell us about the City and area. As a result, we missed out on a lot of information that used to be shared on the tour. The value in a guided tour is the guide, which is completely gone now. You're better off going to Muir Woods and Sausalito on your own rather than on this tour.

Hello Jackie, Thank you for taking the time to write. First, I wanted to let you know that we are sorry that our tour did not meet your expectations. We've been offering our tours using the driver-guide formula during the last ten years, and we rarely hear complaints about this point. In addition, I would like to highlight that in addition to the guided tour provided and the stops at Golden Gate Bridge and Sausalito, our experience includes the entrance to the park and the parking reservation. Therefore, if anyone decides to go to the park in their car, we advise you plan these things in advance. Regarding the delay, we would like to explain to other travelers that Muir Woods National Park lacks a cell phone signal, so leaving anyone behind at the park can put them in real trouble to find a way back to San Francisco. I have instructed my team to contact you and try to find a way to put things right, and I truly hope you give us another chance in the future with any of our other tours. Regards, Xavier General Manager Gray Line San Francisco

Beautiful views

Beautiful views. Friendly and knowledgeable driver. Only complaint was with the ferry back. It was packed and we had to wait in line to turn in the vouchers for tickets so even though we were almost first in line on the ferry, we couldn’t get a seat outside bc of this system. If possible, they should change this. Otherwise it was a great trip

Hello Catherine, Thanks for your honest feedback. We'll address this problem to our partner company to see if we can find a better way to manage the line for our customers. We're happy to read that the trip was overall great and you enjoy the views of Muir Woods and Sausalito. Thanks for your business. Andrea Gray Line San Francisco

A lovely walk in the woods

We loved walking in the woods - had plenty of time and options for length of stroll through the giants. Had a great tour guide and the stop at the bridge was nice. The ferry ride from Sausilito was nice, too.

The drive to Muir woods is tricky, I'm glad someone else was behind the wheel! Overall, this was a nice excursion. The driver Archie was quite good, very personable and shared some interesting tidbits along the way. I wasn't all too interested in hanging out in Sausalito so I hopped on the ferry sooner than later.

Great tour and beautiful Muir Woods!! Tour guide John was very knowledgeable and friendly. Wish we had more time to spend in Sausalito but we had to get back.

Hello Bonnie, We’d like to thank you for taking the time to write this review of our Muir Woods and Sausalito Bus tour. We understand that 1 hour in Sausalito might not be enough. Hence, we recommend to future travelers that might be willing to spend more time in the village to book the option that includes the return by Ferry from Sausalito. We hope you'll come and see us again soon! Xavier General Manager Gray Line San Francisco
