Great Tour!

The Whale watching was incredible. The surrounding views just don't get any better. A smaller tour company that really goes above and beyond to provide a comfortable and informative trip.

Wild, beautiful Alaska whales, glaciers and more.

The Mendenhall glacier was spectacular. The size, the variations in color and texture were beautiful. The guide/driver was a local resident who related stories about both the glacier and his time living in Juneau. The whales were active , the boat's captain and the two naturalists were engaging, information and crazy about the wildlife in the area, especially the whales. Their enthusiasm was infectious. The weather was cold and rainy, but my wife and I had a great time. We highly recommend the tour with Alaska Tales.

The whale watching was cancelled because the boat broke. I am expecting my money back, which was promised to us!

Mendenhall glacier was beautiful. Had an hour there. Just enough time if you didn’t have any walking issues. Whale watching, we saw quite a few whales, and they said they couldn’t get closer than a 100 yards, they stayed more like 400, while other boats were getting great shots. From closer, very frustrating

Disappointed in the Whale Watching & Mendenhall Glacier tour ...
Bee_L
, May 2022
For the 1st stop to Mendenhall Glacier, we were given very little time to explore. In fact, because the cruise was late to allow passengers to get off (and the line to get on the free tour bus to the city was super long), we had to hire an Uber to get to the tour operator. We were told that if we're late, we will have to take the next tour, which we later found out that it is not the case and the Uber ride was not necessary. For the 2nd stop to Whale Watching, we did get to watch a whale from afar, but that was it as far as whale watching is concerned! We did get to see sea lions on a shore but NOT another place to catch perhaps more whales, as the boat captain initially mentioned. So, overall, we did get to see the items on the tour title and the value of the tour was subpar at best.

Beautiful Glaciers and Whale Searching
gladys_C
, May 2022
Juneau Wildlife Whale Watching & Mendenhall Glacier was our tour at a cost of $325 for 2ppl. We booked this early May while on a cruise. The Glaciers had very little snow but it was still beautiful. The bus dropped us off and gave us 50 minutes. The National Capital Park personnel was awesome in sharing info about the glaciers. The Whale watching was not worth the money. It should be titled Whale Searching. We saw 2 partial whales in one hour. A whale fin in the far off and the small part of whale’s back going under the water in the far off. The advertisement said they provide binoculars but they didn’t. However, we did pass a bunch of sea lions piled up on some kind of marker in the water. The crew was very friendly and nice and the boat was in excellent shape. Snacks was water/granola bars and mini bags of goldfish crackers. Also clean bathroom onboard. I love the fact it is an all female crew! Personally I would not recommend this excursion if you want to whale watch! You spend 90% searching for whales and 10% looking at 1/10 of the whale body parts!

Disappointed
Margaret_F
, Jan 2022
This was our first trip to Alaska. The water portion of this excursion was about 2 hours. We saw one whale's tail, twice, from a distance, for about 5 seconds each time. Although the scenery was beautiful, the whale watching was non-existent. The second part of the trip was Mendenhall Glacier. The bus dropped us off and picked us up. No tour, no history, no description, no guidance. The staff was friendly. The boat and bus were clean. But, overall, the experience was a disappointment.

Great for the family

Had a great time. We had our 1 year old with us and the crew was super accommodating! We got to see a few whales while out there. We did go toward the end of season so we weren’t sure we were going to get to see any but the crew assured us we would. Would recommend for sure!

From the knowledgeable start with Captain Luke and naturalist Bri to the finish with a sighting of a large white tale whale doing a deep dive this was extraordinary lifetime experience! So many whales to see on a wonderful day with an amazing 2 breach sighting too! Beyond our expectations!! It’s a must do!!!
