Overview

In terms of history, scenery, and marine life, there isn’t anywhere on the Big Island of Hawaii that compares to Kealakekua Bay. This protected cove on the island’s west shore is where Captain Cook met his end, and today a memorial stands at the bay to honor the famous explorer. On this guided Big Island kayaking tour, hear the history of Captain Cook as well as surrounding temples, and, after paddling past rugged sea cliffs and caves, snorkel and swim in the clear waters of this Marine Life Conservation District.
  • Kayak and snorkeling tour in Kealakekua Bay on the Big Island
  • Kayak through the bay to Captain Cook Monument with your local guide
  • Spot Hawaiian spinner dolphins and humpback whales
  • Snorkel in the clear blue water and enjoy a delicious lunch

As you paddle the clear, protected waters, keep an eye out for Hawaiian spinner dolphins as they splash and leap by the shore. In winter, it’s common to see humpback whales as they spout and breach in the distance. Throughout the paddle, your local guide explains the features you see along the coast, from towering sea cliffs or Pali o Kapu o Keoua to Napo’opo’o Beach and the ancient remnants of Kawa’aloa village.

When you eventually arrive at the Captain Cook monument, pull your kayak up on the shore and prepare for the scenic hike, and spend time snorkeling the waters of Kealakekua Bay. Enjoy lunch by the monument, soaking in the views.

The tour ends with a guided paddle back to Napoopoo Landing.

I couldn't make the tour because of unavailable Ubers and they don't do hotel pickups. What an inconvenience...

Best part of our trip!

This had to be the highlight of our trip to the Big Island. Rabbit and Iwa were the best tour guides! We had fun but also learned so much! You can tell they have true love and respect for the big island which really translates in their tours. The kayaking was a little daunting at first but it turned out to be a great workout and totally doable! Snorkeling is the perfect prize at the end and our favorite part of our trip! If you’re debating, go for it! You will have a blast, learn so much, and see amazing things!

Kayak Snorkel trip to Captain Cook Mmt

Our Hawaiian guides Rabbit and Evo were great! They gave us a good historical perspective of the Captain Cook arrival and the Hawaiian culture that was and how it changed. That was all before the fun kayak and snorkel tour we took. The safety info and guide communication were great and we felt like we were in good hands. We would definitely recommend Aloha Kayak.

Fantastic morning - a pretty perfect amount of kayaking and snorkeling, with friendly guides that had all sorts of interesting stories to tell about the bay, and Captain Cook, as well as Hawaiian culture. I highly recommend this tour!

Average experience I suppose, I was bummed it had to be cancelled due to weather but I get it. Just waiting on my refund now. Which is weird because another tour was cancelled and I was immediately refunded.

Disappointing customer service
Tara_J
, Aug 2021
They cancelled because of the rain which is understandable. The problem was leave a group of people waiting at there office for an hour knowing it was going to cancel since it was raining the entire time we waited. There was no one at the office and no one answered the phone which the sign on the door said to call. Waste of time for sure.
