Meet your guide at the Anchorage Visitor Center prior to a 1:00 p.m. departure time. Board a comfortable vehicle for the scenic drive along the tidal flats of the Turnagain Arm, known for its abundant wildlife. Learn about the area from your guide as you look out for sightings of Dall sheep, beluga whales, and more in their natural environment.

Then, tour the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, which provides refuge for animals that cannot survive in the wild. See the 12 species of wild animals that the center currently provides care for, including wood bison, musk ox, and lynx.

After your visit, board a boat for a glacier cruise up to the face of Portage Glacier. Ride up to 300 feet (91 meters) from the glacier cliff for an up-close look at this massive wall of ice.

Return to Anchorage at the end of your tour.

Experience the sheer awesome face of a mighty Alaska glacier on your one-hour cruise aboard the mv Ptarmigan. Standing just 300 yards from a relic of the Ice Age and watching for icebergs to break off the glacier and crash into the water below. At the 140-acre Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, jaws drop in awe-even those of longtime Alaskans. AWCC’s mission is to provide refuge for orphaned, injured and ill animals-those that can’t survive in the wild. The center also educates visitors about Alaska’s Wildlife. Some animals you will see are brown bears, black bears, wolf pack, wood bison, moose etc...

Our driver Chris was great- very informative of the areas we drove through. The boat ride up to Portage Glacier was fantastic. And the quick stop at a stream where we saw spawning salmon was wonderful and not something we would have known to stop at if we drove ourselves
